The Research group “Agronomy and Environment” of the University of Almería (Spain) hosts the Soil Microbiological Lab of the CIAIMBITAL (Research Center for Intensive Agrosystems and Agrifood Biotechnology)
Together with our expertise in soil microbiology we have an interesting knowledge in soil restoration and greenhouse emissions.
We can highlight the following research projects which we are working on or leading:
• Analysis on soil biodiversity due to the use of urban organic waste and sewage sludge as a soil amendment, within the framework of the INTERREG SUDOE ECOVAL project (SOE4/P1/E1104).
• Biofertilisers as an important tool to reduce inputs of traditional fertilizers. Project associated with the Field4ever program, funded by the European Union's Research and Innovation 2020 program. Grant agreement No 947084
• Restoration of Abandoned Agricultural Soils in Semi-arid Zones to Improve Productivity and Soil Quality and Promote Carbon Sequestration. PY18-4112. Projects ERDF Operational Program 2014-2020. Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, Companies and University.
• Crop diversification and low-input farming across Europe: from practitioners engagement and ecosystems services to increased revenues and chain organization-Diverfarming (Project ID 728003).
• Restoration of Soils Degraded by Agricultural Activities in Semi-arid Zones. Control of CO2 Emissions and Biological Indicators (UAL18-RNM-A021-B).
• New approaches to soil restoration in semi-arid environments. CO2 fluxes and molecular indicators (CGL2017-88734-R; BIORESOC).

The objectives followed by the UAL and CIAIMBITAL can be summarized as follows:
1. Promote, encourage and carry out research and scientific work, particularly in the field of knowledge of intensive agriculture and agri-food biotechnology, with the aim of raising the quality and quantity of scientific production and promoting multidisciplinary lines of research.
2. Promote and perform research and technological development with other knowledge agents and with companies.
3. Train postgraduate students and train doctors in high scientific level in the lines of research of the center and the University.
4. Contribute to the lifelong learning of the scientific-technical personnel of the industry and of the producers, through specialization and improvement courses, seminars, congresses, conferences and similar activities.
5. Promote the transfer and enhancement of scientific achievements through the exchange of information and results with other public or private entities and the scientific and commercial exploitation of R&D&I results.
6. Promote the enhancement of the Center and the University of Almería in the business world and in society as a whole.
